Pre-Departure: Why Denmark?

As I eagerly await the days remaining until my departure for Copenhagen, Denmark, I could not be more excited to embark upon my semester studying abroad! You may be wondering “Why Denmark?”. What an excellent inquiry! To explain my reasoning I’ll provide both a short and a long explanation (some people like faster answers than others!):

  • The short answer?—why not?
  • The long answer?—keep reading…

As a junior economics major entering into my penultimate year of study at Haverford College, I strongly desire the opportunity to pursue coursework that deviates from the oft-traveled path of a pure liberal arts education. When researching the various destinations available to me through Haverford College’s awesome List of Study Abroad Programs, studying abroad in Denmark soon became a personal favorite due to the amazing program being offered there!

The Danish Institute for Study Abroad, or DIS, is an academic institution located in Copenhagen, Denmark that I will be attending during the fall of 2014. Offering an enriching curriculum designed to provide students with the opportunity to experience Danish culture and explore all that Europe has to offer, DIS truly has it all!

Being an entrepreneurial-minded individual at heart, I warmly welcome the opportunity to engage in vocational studies pursuant to my entrepreneurial interests and passions! (The other classes are just icing on the cake). Here are the courses I will be taking:

I firmly believe that this list of courses will help to reaffirm my burgeoning interests in entrepreneurship while simultaneously acclimating me to Danish culture & history. Most importantly, I’ll have the rest of Europe at my fingertips too! Heck, the DIS website sums it up better than I can:

“Copenhagen as your home, Europe as your classroom.”

I hope you will choose to follow me along my journey as I will be updating this blog frequently during my travels abroad! Until next time…
